Working as an office cleaner is a very important job, just like many janitorial roles. They often play an invisible role in keeping the office clean for the staffers who work there. After the 9-to-5 employees close their laptops and head home for the day, these janitorial workers come in to tidy the place up. They take out everyone's trash, sweep and mop the floors, throw away expired takeout boxes in the fridge, clean the bathrooms… the list goes on! When the 9-to-5ers return the next day, the office is sparkling clean, but they probably barely notice because they're just used to the invisible work that these cleaners do on the opposite shift.
When you see the cleaning staff around your workplace, it's nice to introduce yourself to them – they are sort of your coworkers, after all. This person was friendly with the guy who collects the trash at their office. They even went above and beyond, offering the guy some water or snacks. But this chatting quickly went south when the guy started asking for money! Yikes!
It's one thing to ask for some cash from your friends or family when you're in a squeeze. But begging colleagues for money can quickly get you some strong side-eyes, or even a visit to the Human Resources office. This person tried to be generous, and instead, they now feel pressured to be this cleaner's "personal ATM."
